Active Release Technique® (ART®) is a hands-on treatment method developed by a doctor more than 30 years ago as a way to effectively treat athletes so they could regain mobility and get back in the game faster after an injury or condition resulting from overuse. ART is a patented soft-tissue treatment that address problems within:

The practitioners at Atlanta Sports Recovery use their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. Based on how this soft tissue feels and moves, we will apply precisely directed tension to manipulate and break up scar tissue that formed as a result of overuse or injury. ART is a highly customized approach to breaking up adhesions (scar tissue) and restoring muscle movement.

Our goal is to go right after the sights of adhesion in order to break up the scar tissue creating the pain and dysfunction. Since these sights are very sensitive to begin with, you may experience some discomfort described by many patients as a “good hurt”. However, pressure is never applied beyond the patient’s tolerance. You can also always ask for the pressure to be decreased.

Wear workout clothes (shorts preferably). You are going to move around quite a bit during the session.

Because ART treatments break up adhesions in muscles and connective tissue, they’re highly effective at increasing flexibility and mobility. Once scar tissue is no longer present in the treatment area, such as your shoulder or elbow, it’s then “released” and able to move freely again. For some people, ART provides considerable relief after a single treatment session.
