2026: The Year Your Body Doesn’t Break

2026: The Year Your Body Doesn’t Break

By Coach Johnny B (Ms, CFL3, LMT)

In 2018, I started the business that is now known as Atlanta Sports Recovery. Initially, I called the company The Fix. My vision was to create a mechanic’s shop for the human body, a place that fixed broken humans.

Unfortunately, the SEO gods disagreed with my vision. I was getting a high daily call volume for inquiries; unfortunately, they were all for plumbers, electricians, or HVAC specialists.

So I changed the name and focused on the people I’d been working with every day for 6 years: everyday athletes (people who train and compete hard but don’t get paid to do it).

The vision has remained the same: to be a mechanic for the human body, specializing in fixing broken athletes.

After 8 years of running said Athlete Mechanic shop, I’ve learned quite a bit. Still, the most important lesson is this: people have no fucking clue what is going on inside their bodies and ignore the warning lights until the issue becomes catastrophic.

For the longest time, I just assumed all of my clients were just dumb, tough, or both.

Then, last year, it dawned on me: these people are among the most intelligent humans on earth. They are physicians/nurses, parents, educators, high-leverage salespeople, coders, skilled and experienced tradespeople, trainers, executives, entrepreneurs, consultants, lawyers, etc.

They are not idiots; they just don’t know how to read or interpret their bodies’ signals. So the signals go ignored, which becomes normalized and normal begets normal and eventually we all slide into problem land where normal is: chronic pain, bad mood, subpar performance, lack of motivation and irregular training/working out.

Eventually, that terrible normal becomes injury, and people land in our office hoping that we’re the king’s men and we can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

The good news is that we can, but it’s expensive and time-consuming. It’s also not sustainable to continually break your body and then rebuild it.

A better plan is to understand the signals, intervene early, and fix minor problems before they become big ones.

So in 2026, I’m recommitting to doing a better job of educating everyone who gets my little Sunday sermonette newsletter, hoping you’ll gain a better understanding of that amazing, beautiful piece of biology called the human body.

I’m also making it a goal to get more people signed up for our Recovery & Performance Membership.

Of all the services we offer at ASR, it’s the most meaningful and the most underutilized. It’s a monthly visit with a highly trained and skilled athlete mechanic who can catch problems before they become issues and do work that keeps you performing at a high level for a long time.

If you want robustness to last, proper care is essential. Like all things that are valuable in life, if you invest with care, your returns compound. If you don’t, you accrue debt.

Unlike cars, you can’t just buy a new body when you wear this one out. You’re stuck with the consequences of your choices for the rest of your life.

So, in 2026, I challenge everyone reading this to invest in your body and health NOW. You can’t repurchase it when you are wealthy and retired.
